I wrote to her as if i wanted to forget
think about what i just said
to better understand what comes next

Of like the art of losing isn’t hard to master
it’s expected not from you but others
till the intent is only meant for disaster

what i ask of her in this dinner
mashed potatoes, turkey & ham with mustard
plus the dessert includes ice cream & not custard
fattening with a smile of fluster

The biscuits burned out of the toaster
then when you present yourself to the table i gesture
that i’m willing to climb all ladders
eat with a smile & chatter

No matter what, this woman is the only thing that matters
as i bathe & lather
myself into the cleansing thoughts of a writer
that’s been matched with the flame of love minus a lighter
